West Haven shocks Amity

Yuraima Estevez went 3-for-4 for the West Haven softball team, which defeated Amity 5-1, in a Southern Connecticut Conference interdivision win at Woodbridge.

Joanna Fekieta picked up the win and allowed just two hits for West Haven (2-3). Amity falls to 3-2.

In other softball action:

Linda Amarante hit a two-run single, and pitched a one-hitter, to lift Cheshire to a 3-0 win over Sheehan. The Rams are 4-1.

Nicole Papale singled up the middle with two outs in the top of the seventh to break up Amarante’s perfect game for the Titans (2-3).

Taylor Miessau pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine for East Haven in a 4-0 win over Wilbur Cross.

Rachele Fico pitched a no-hitter in a victory over Brookfield but the Panthers committed two errors, ending Fico's bid for a third-straight perfect game. Fico was also attempting to tie the national record for perfect games. That mark was set by Marissa Marzan of California from 1998-2001 with 20.
