West Haven edges Fairfield Prep

Todd Tompkins drove in Mark Palmieri with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the West Haven baseball team to a 2-1 Southern Connecticut Conference Quinnipiac division win over Fairfield Prep in West Haven.

Tom Lawrence went the distance for the Westies (9-1), striking out 11 and walking just one. Tony D’Addio added a pair of hits and an RBI for West Haven, which is ranked third in the Register Top 10.

Max Freccia had an RBI single for Fairfield Prep (5-5).

In softball action, Sam Romano had three hits and three RBIs, and winning pitcher Taylor Miessau had two hits including a double in visiting East Haven’s 6-4 win over Shelton.

Christina Gelardi scattered seven hits and had two hits in visiting Derby’s 5-2 victory over Sacred Heart Academy. Ashley Bartone had three hits, and Shae Harding had two hits including a double for Derby (6-3).
