Girls' Basketball Postseason Update
Seventh-seeded Hillhouse jumped out to a 45-24 halftime lead and coasted to a 70-56 win over No. 10 New Canaan in the second round of the Class L tournament. Dannisha Pierce finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds. That sets up a quarterfinal matchup between the Academics and No. 2 Kolbe Cathedral.
Four players scored in double figures for No. 2 Old Lyme as the Wildcats coasted to a 72-33 win over No. 15 Derby in the second round of the Class S tournament. The Red Raiders were without their top player Shae Harding, after the senior point guard picked up three first-half fouls. That changed the complexion of the game.
Hamden Hall's season ended with a 55-35 loss to Canterbury in the semifinals of the NEPSAC tournament. Dreisen Heath had 17 points in a losing effort.
Other notables... Fairfield Warde, the Class L top seed, knocked off No. 17 Hand 67-47. No. 6 Kennedy edged No. 11 E.O. Smith 70-66 in Class L play. In Class S action, No. 13 Coventry upset No. 4 Thomaston 55-36 and No. 3 Capital Prep dismantled No. 14 Platt Tech 72-27.
