Five Area Teams Head Home
In the opening round of the girls' basketball tournament tonight, Southington edged Cheshire 49-47 in Class LL action. In Class M play, North Branford fell 34-18 to St. Bernard, Tolland knocked off Foran 45-38, Berlin coasted past Sheehan 64-35 and Montville topped Law 57-42.
Bianca Simmons and Rachel Roberts combined for 41 points as Mercy doubled Westhill 72-36. The Tigers face Symone Roberts and New Britain in the second round of the Class LL play Thursday at New Britain (7 p.m.).
Hamden knocked off Hall 60-47. The Green Dragons outscored their opponents 24-9 in the final quarter.
Class LL winners
Chantell Alford scored 24 points to lead Wilbur Cross to a 71-38 win over Newington.Bianca Simmons and Rachel Roberts combined for 41 points as Mercy doubled Westhill 72-36. The Tigers face Symone Roberts and New Britain in the second round of the Class LL play Thursday at New Britain (7 p.m.).

Shelby Van Huysen scored 15 points to lead Haddam-Killingworth, the Shoreline Confernece champions, to a 60-48 win over Woodland. Morgan also beat Stonington 51-37.
