Fairfield Prep swimmers shatter five Class LL records
Fairfield Prep senior Andrew Grinalds won two individual events and was a member of two winning relays.
Grinalds won the 200-yard individual medley in a meet-record time of 1 minute, 50.11 seconds, and then took the 100 freestyle in 45.54 seconds, also a record.
The Jesuits placed second behind winner Greenwich.
Grinalds, who will swim at Stanford in the fall, also teamed with Andrew Golankiewicz, Brian Power and Eric Trotta to win the 200 medley relay (1:34.59, meet record), and with Ed Becker, Golankiewicz and Bart Platow to capture the 400 freestyle relay (3:07.50, meet record).
Becker, Platow, Trotta and Kristof Toth also placed first in the 200 freestyle relay in a record 1:26.95.
Amity placed third in Class L. Amity senior Tyler Champagne placed third in the 500 freestyle (in a personal-best 4:53.86). Freshman Eric Holden finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.03) for the Spartans.
Seymour’s Chris Durette took third place in both the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke at the Class S Championship.
Durette swam a time of 56.08 seconds in the backstroke to break the school record previously held by Ben Michaleson. He completed the 100 freestyle in 48.93 and earned all-state honors in both events.
