Amity seeks SCC boys' swim title

Amity is in position to contend for the Southern Connecticut Conference boys' swimming championship, which takes place next Wednesday at 6 p.m. on the campus of Southern Conn. State.

The Spartans went 9-2 during the regular season, losing to SCC foe Fairfield Prep, and a non-conference tilt to Glastonbury.

Fairfield Prep has won the last six SCC tournament championships. Amity, however, is confident about its chances.

"We definitely have a lot of guys who can score for us," Amity coach Todd Rainey said. "Hopefully we'll finish top 2, top 3."

Amity has just two seniors, but a plethora of juniors and underclassmen on its roster. Leading the charge is junior captain Eric Holden, who won the State Open and Class L titles in the 100 yard breaststroke last season."

The Spartans are deep in several events. Amity finished third in the SCC, and fourth in Class L, in 2010.

"We were young last year," Rainey said. "We're young this year. I have so many options. I've never had this many options before. We've had some good teams here, but as far as moving people around, we have a pretty versatile group of guys. It's a lot of fun to coach them."
