Girls' swimming: Spartans hand Rams second loss
For the first time in nearly 30 years the host Amity girls' swim team defeated Cheshire 113.5-72.5 on Thursday and did it in dominating fashion.
The Spartans won 10 of 12 events and improved to 10-0 for the season. Cheshire fell to 8-2.
Reigning Register All-Area girls' swimming MVP Dana Grindall had a pair of win in the 200 individual medley (2:10.23) and 100 butterfly (57.22). Anna Lu also had a pair of wins for the Spartans in the 200 freestyle (1:58.49) and the 500 freestyle (5:18.44) as did Dana Chung in the 50 freestyle (25.93) and the 100 freestyle (55.89).
The Spartans also swept the top three diving spots. Amanda Craig (220.10 points) was first followed by Carly Young (188.90) and Gabrielle Syrop (186.20).
Cheshire's two wins came late in the meet with Sara Barlok winning the 100 backstroke (1:02.58) and Taylor Deubel winning the 100 breaststroke (1:11.32).
The Spartans' final meet of the season is on Tuesday against Shelton at the Shelton Community Pool at 3:30 p.m.
