Josh McCormick ended up with a goal and an assist to lead Lyman Hall to a 5-1 win over Sheehan at the Whalers Hockey Fest at Rentschler Field.

In the second period, Kaden Batzinger gave Lyman Hall a 2-0 lead at 9:46 and Josh McCormick made it 3-0 at 11:18. The Titans picked up their intensity and a long-range goal cut the lead to 3-1. Nick Capozzi's blazing slap shot from the left point flew inside the left post to make it a two-goal game at the second intermission.

C.J. Tangredi scored with 54 seconds left in the first period to give Lyman Hall a 1-0 lead over cross-town rival Sheehan at the Whalers Hockey Fest at Rentschler Field.
The Trojans outshot the Titans 13-6 in the first period.

The steady rain that was falling at the Whalers Hockey Fest at Rentschler Field stopped at 7:20 p.m. Both teams are on the ice warming up.
The water forming on the playing surface during the rain has quickly turned to ice.

Lyman Hall and Sheehan are scheduled to face off at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Whalers Hockey Fest at Rentschler field. But a steady rain started falling at 6:45 p.m. and light rain continues to fall.
The game is still scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Sander Boroczky had two goals and Conor Crouse of West Haven had a goal and two assists to lead St. Joseph to a 4-2 win over Amity at the Whalers Hockey Fest at Rentschler Field.

Sander Boroczky scored at 10:03 and Pat Corcoran at 10:39 to give St. Joseph a 4-2 lead in the third period at the Whalers Hockey Fest at Rentschler Field.

Amity's Sean Butler scored at 6:43 of the third period to tie St. Joseph 2-2 at the Whalers Hockey Fest at Rentschler Field.

Amity and St. Joseph got their offense going in the second period. Amity outshot St. Joseph 13-12 but the Cadets came out on top on the scoreboard.
Joe Bianchi gave Amity a 1-0 lead at 3:23. St. Joe's Conor Crouse of West Haven scored at 8:47 and Sander Boroczky made it 2-1 for the Cadets at 10:32.

Conor Crouse of West Haven scored at 8:47 to tie the game at 1 with Amity at the Whalers Hockey Fest at Rentschler Field. Pat Corcoran assisted on the goal. Crouse scored off a wrist shot between the two circles.

A very quick first period ended in a scoreless tie for Amity and St. Joseph at the Whalers HockeyFest at Renstchler Field.
By the middle of the period the light puddles near the goals from the warm afternoon were gone.

It's 4 p.m. and the Amity vs. St. Joseph game is about to start. There are two very thin, small puddles of water adjacent to each goal due to the warm weather today. It was 55 degrees at one point.
Amity coach Gary Lindgren and St. Joseph coach Marty Crouse said it wouldn't be a problem.
I walked on it and it was a very thin layer of water.

While Amity and St.Joseph will deal with warm conditions in their outdoor boys' hockey game at the Whalers Hockey Fest at Rentschler Field today at 4 p.m., Lyman Hall and Sheehan will likely have to deal with wind gusts expected to be at 40-45 miles per hour. Lyman Hall-Sheehan begins at 7:30 p.m.
"The wind is going to be a bit of a factor tonight," Lyman Hall coach Tim Belcher said. "Winds could gust up to 40 mph this evening. I think that could be a bit of a problem.
"However, both teams have to deal with it so there should be no distinct advantage either way. As far as the temperature, I think the warmer the better. However, once the sun goes down, it is going to be cold."

The Lyman Hall boys' hockey team faces Wallingford cross-town rival Sheehan at the Whalers Hockey Fest outdoor hockey event today at 4 p.m. at Rentschler Field. Lyman Hall forward Adam McKay said he and his teammates are very excited about playing in the event.

"We are very excited to play in the Whaler’s Hockey Fest and we have been looking forward to this game since September," McKay said. "We've been fundraising and selling tickets to get this chance to play in this game and our team and our whole school is very enthusiastic. We are especially excited with the fact that we are playing our cross town rivals Sheehan.
"Adjusting to the outdoor temperatures may be a little tough in the beginning but as the game progresses it will feel just like we’re playing on our home rink. Most of the guys on the team have skated on the few outdoor rinks in the state before but this is going to be completely different. Playing at a rink that seats thousands of people will be incomparable to the rinks that we’re used to and the experience will be something that we will remember forever."
Lyman Hall prepared for playing outdoors when coach Tim Belcher recently scheduled a morning practice at Ralph Walker Ice Rink in New Haven.
"Other than than our outdoor practice at Ralph Walker Rink, we prepared for this game like it was any other game versus Sheehan and we are prepared to play with intensity from the first whistle to the last," McKay said. "Personally I feel honored to be playing on the same ice surface as Whaler greats along with current professional athletes from the Connecticut Whale.
"I think that this event is one of the greatest events in Connecticut hockey. It allows us to remember the Hartford Whalers and celebrate the talented high school hockey that we have in our state. I can’t wait to see the other high school games being displayed along with prep school games. I plan for this experience to be very enriching and I can’t wait to step on the ice Monday night (today) and be able to play old time, pond hockey."

Some poeple have been wondering how the warm weather this week is going to affect games played outdoors at the Whalers Hockey Fest event at Rentschler Field. The temperature is supposed to hover around the 49-50 degree mark today, go back to the 20s on Tuesday and then shoot up to 50-60 degrees by the end of the week.
While winter storms played havoc with high school games in January, the warm weather could actually be a benefit according to Whalers Hockey Fest spokesman Bob Crawford.
"What I’ve been told is that warmer weather is actually better for the ice," Crawford said. "The refrigeration system freezes it from the bottom up. You get better ice if the air is not cold enough for the ice to start freezing from the top down."
That sounds like good news for four area boys' high school hockey teams being showcased in the Hockey Fest event today. St. Joseph faces Amity at 4 p.m. and Lyman Hall faces Wallingford cross-town rival Sheehan at 7:30 p.m.

The St. Joseph boys' hockey team has been rolling along with an 11-2 record as it approaches its first participation in the CIAC Division I tournament this season.
St. Joseph coach Marty Crouse of West Haven said the Cadets are playing as well as he expected at this stage of the season.
"We played well in our 9-3 victory over Westhill on Tuesday," Crouse said. "We changed a few things around and shook up the lines and saw a much better performance than in the past several games so maybe this is a sign of starting to play to our potential. Our defense of Kevin Robitaille, Ryan Parsons, Chris McCormack, Andrew Gore and Matt Vazzano continue to improve and compliments our offense. (Goalie) Zach Carrano has been playing well again which gives the others the confidence needed. If everyone does what he is capable of we can make D-I interesting."
The first line of Conor Crouse, Pat Corcoran and Sander Boroczky is leading the scoring punch and now the line of C.K. Keater, John Ferguson and Jeremy Sweeting is starting to jell and put some numbers on the board. Keeping those top two lines fresh are a line of all sophomores of Mark Laoue, Zach Usinger and Matt Greenhut.
"I'm really looking forward to the rematch against New Canaan (Sat., 6:20 p.m. Darien Rink) to avenge our lackluster game earlier this season," Marty Crouse said. "Then to add on Monday at the Whalers HockeyFest at Rentschler Field, a huge opportunity to prove ourselves again against Amity (4 p.m.). Playing outdoors in a special event-type atmosphere is really exciting. I can't wait."

The two-week Whalers Hockey Fest event at Rentschler Field in East Hartford begins Thursday. On Monday in boys' hockey, Amity faces St. Joseph at 4 p.m. and Lyman Hall plays Sheehan at 7:30 p.m.
Next Wednesday (Feb. 16) , Guilford boys play St. Bernard/Bacon/NFA at 6 p.m.
