WEST HAVEN — Amity hockey coach Gary Lindgren knew the scenario as his team entered Wednesday afternoon’s contest against St. Joseph-Trumbull. The Spartans needed either a win or a tie to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Just 16 seconds into the game, the Spartans were in an uphill climb as the Cadets were on the scoreboard off a shot by Christian Keator. Amity never recovered.
Led by the goaltending of Ron Johnson, who made 27 saves, and the play of John Ferguson with two goals and an assist, the Cadets ended Amity’s postseason hopes with a 5-0 victory at the Edward L. Bennett Rink.
