Hand girls win SCC Hammonasset soccer title

Kara McHugh's goal with 4 minutes left in regulation helped Hand beat Guilford 3-2 Wednesday night. It also allowed the Tigers to clinch their seventh consecutive Southern Connecticut Conference Hammonasset Division title.
With Branford (Oronoque) and Hamden (Quinnipiac) having already clinched, that just leaves the Housatonic Division, which will be decided today. Shelton plays at Cheshire, the reigning three-time division champ, at 3:45. Shelton needs a win or a tie to clinch the division outright.

On the boys side, Fairfield Prep clinched its second straight SCC Quinnipiac title by beating Hamden Wednesday at home. Shelton won the SCC Housatonic Wednesday when it beat Lyman Hall.
Inclement weather postponed the Guilford-Hand boys game to Thursday night at 5 at the Surf Club in Madison. Hand needs a win or tie to win the Hammonasset. North Haven wins the Oronoque by winning at East Haven Thursday night.
