Seymour tops St. Joseph

Alyssa Downs hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to lift top-seeded, and unbeaten, Seymour to a 1-0 win over No. 2 St. Joseph to win the Class M state softball championship.

It was the Wildcats' (26-0) eighth title, and first since 2006.

Senior pitcher Kim Bogen allowed two hits and struck out 12 for Seymour. She was named the game's Most Valuable Player.

St. Joseph finishes at 24-3.
