Derby softball loses in Class S semifinals
No. 10 Canton scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to emerge with a 4-3 victory over Derby in the Class S state softball semifinals.
Frances Klimczak had a RBI single, and Sarah Benedetti drove in the winning run with a triple for the Warriors (17-5).
Canton pitcher Monique Gauthier allowed five hits and struck out 11.
Derby pitcher Christina Gelardi allowed just six hits, and she added a two-run triple. The Red Raiders finish at 17-8.
In Class LL:
Masuk defeated Southington 1-0, and Fitch defeated Mercy 4-0.
