Connor David scored on an error in the 11th inning to lift No. 8 Cheshire over top-seeded West Haven in the opening round of the Southern Connecticut Conference baseball tournament at Quigley Stadium.
Kevin Jefferis threw 10 innings, while striking out 12 for the Rams. Max Slade earned the win after pitching the 11th frame. Tommy Lawrence went 10 innings for West Haven, struck out 16, but picked up a no decision. Matt Langello took the loss for the Westies.
Lawrence gave West Haven a 4-2 lead in the fifth with a two-run home run, but Steve Howard responded with his own home run to spark a Cheshire comeback. Cheshire moves on to face No. 4 Foran Thursday at Yale Field. As for West Haven, it enters the state tournament next week with a four-game losing streak.
