First pitch: Softball season opens Wednesday

The high school softball season begins on Wednesday. Below is a list of some of the top games on the schedule:

Woodland at Seymour, 3:30 p.m.: Both teams have the talent to win the NVL title.

Mercy at Cheshire, 3:45 p.m.: This is a meeting between two schools that should contend for the SCC championship.

Hamden at Amity, 3:45 p.m.: Peter Zoppi takes over at Hamden, while Bob Purcell is in his first year at Amity. Both programs lost their pitchers to graduation, so this one could be one of the more interesting openers.

West Haven at Lyman Hall, 3:45 p.m.: Both of these teams are predicated to do well this season, and possibly even move into the upper echelon of the SCC.

Masuk at Waterford, 4:15 p.m.: Masuk has won the last two Class LL titles. Waterford finished as the runner-up in Class L the last two years.
