HOCKEY: BIG WIN FOR AMITY, GUILFORD GIRLS CLINCH TIE FOR TITLE

The defending Division II champion Amity boys' hockey team has had an up and down regular season. But Wednesday's win over SCC Division I rival North Haven is a good indication the Spartans are on the verge of peaking just in time for another big post-season run.
Joey Ciancola scored with 24 seconds left in the third period to lead Amity to a 4-3 win over North Haven.
The Spartans are 3-1 against Division I teams this season and will close the regular season with one more Division I opponent - against Xavier on March 3 at Wesleyan Rink.
In girls' hockey, Guilford took no prisoners at Hamden on Wednesday in a game that had regular-season CCGHL title implications. Goalie Alyssa Zarillo had 23 saves to lead the Indians to a 5-0 win over Hamden. Guilford ends up 10-2 in the CCGHL. Simsbury defeated CCGHL rival Hand 4-2 on Wednesday and ends up tied with Guilford for the league title with an identical 10-2 record.
