Shelton's Gillen wins NE wrestling Title
Shelton’s Pat Gillen dominated the field in the 215-pound weight class at the New England Wrestling Championships Saturday at the New Haven Athletic Center.
Gillen, a junior, defeated James Collins of Reading (Mass.) 7-0 in the championship final. He was the only area champion.
Gillen, who improved to 49-0 this season, did not give up a point the entire tournament.
Alex Carpenter of Amity finished fourth at 160. He lost an 8-0 decision to Nick Lawrence of Timberland (N.H.) in the consolation match. Nick Giulietti of Sheehan lost in the consolation match at 140 to Dave Pinto of Milford (Mass.) 3-1.
