BOYS' HOCKEY: CIAC to discuss reorganizing divisions

The CIAC boys' hockey committee will meet on Sunday at 10 a.m. at CIAC headquarters in Cheshire to discuss the reorganization of divisions.
Because the number of hockey teams have gone from 67 to 57 since 2008, the hockey committee is trying to find a way to keep the 3 division setup. The CIAC is favoiring going to a 12-team elite Division I group of teams with the remaining teams split up into an equal number of Division II teams and Division III teams.
The other alternative would be going back to a Division I and Division II setup.
"Since I joined the Ice Hockey Committee in the 80's we have annually assessed our tournament organization-divisional set-up," said Tom Neagle, chairman of the CIAC hockey committee. " In that respect, this year is no different than past years. We are meeting with our coaches tomorrow (Sunday) to discuss with them the current status of high school hockey in Connecticut and its future.
"At this point, we are only at the discussion stage. No decisions have been made and, as is our custom, we want our coaches' input. We have received some feedback via emails and phone calls but we are looking forward to tomorrow's personal dialogue."
Neagle said any decision about the future organization of the hockey tournament would need action by the CIAC hockey ommittee and then by the CIAC Board of Control.
