EAST HAVEN — It was all too familiar for the eight seniors on the East Haven girls’ soccer team. Another new coach, another long season.

Then something clicked.

“I think they figured out there’s not a second chance in high school,” first-year coach Ray Curren said. “This is it.”

The Easties, voted the Register Team of the Week, lost to Newtown and dropped to 0-4-1 on the season. But they held their own in the 4-1 loss to the Nighthawks, a state power.
