Mascolo has large shoes to fill at Cheshire
Dan Nowak's story on the new girls'swim coach:
CHESHIRE —
Last season, 37-year Cheshire girls’ swim coach Ed Aston announced
early on that he was retiring. He had laid a strong foundation of
success on the league, CIAC Class L and M and CIAC State Open levels and
the early announcement prepared the underclassmen for a transition.
Replacing a longtime coach where the daily routine and expectations are built-in components doesn’t always equate to a smooth transition. But in April, Cheshire athletic director Steve Trifone was presented with a candidate who could easily provide that smooth transition — Dan Mascolo.
“When I was hired, I felt honored to be part of a special program that has a long history of success,” Mascolo said. “I talked to Ed after I got the position. He was very nice and eager to speak with me about the team. He thought I was a good fit for the job and that meant a lot to me.”
