Cheerleading Competition Saturday
The Southern Connecticut Conference will host its sixth Cheerleading Competition on Saturday at East Haven High School. Warm-ups start at 9 a.m., and the competition will follow at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students. Children under six will be admitted free.
Fifteen SCC schools are scheduled to participate in the competition in four different categories – 14-under squad size, 15-over squad size, novice and co-ed.
Schools scheduled to compete include Branford (co-ed), Career (novice), Cheshire (15-over), East Haven (15-over), Foran (15-over), Hamden (14-under), Hillhouse (14-under), Jonathan Law (15-over), Lyman Hall (15-over), Mercy (15-over), North Haven (15-over), Sacred Heart Academy (15-over), Sheehan (15-over), Shelton (co-ed), West Haven (14-under and novice).
“The cheerleading competition has become an exciting event for the Southern Connecticut Conference,” explained Commissioner Al Carbone. “More importantly, we have been able to modify and improve the competition to make it a positive experience for all of our student athletes.”
Shelton is the defending 15-over champion, while West Haven captured the 14-under title last year. Branford is the defending co-ed division champion and Career was the 2010 novice champion.
The event sponsors for the 2011 SCC cheerleading competition are Planet Stunt and AllStar Cheer Bowtique.
