Hamden takes lead in SCC Quinnipiac

The Hamden girls' soccer team beat Mercy 1-0 at home Friday in the SCC Quinnipiac Division opener. There is a long way to go, so you can understand why veteran coach Gary Collins is not getting excited yet. But Hamden has never won the division title, Mercy has won it 11 times.
You can read about the game and Hamden's upcoming schedule at:
http://bit.ly/a8Y1rV

Also, the Foran boys tied Guilford 3-3 Friday night. Guilford had not lost or tied a game in the SCC Hammonasset Division since 2006.

This week, Fairfield Prep, coming off a win at Xavier, continues play in the SCC Quinnipiac when it travels to West Haven to play the Westies Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. Then the Jesuits host Notre Dame-West Haven Friday afternoon at 3:45 p.m.

Soccer, week two

Week two of the high school season is upon us. The Career boys' soccer team won its first two games and needs just one - just one - to equal last season's output. That could come tonight when Career plays at Sheehan at 7 p.m.
Tuesday's slate is highlighted by a pair of SCC interdivision matchups: Cheshire at Hamden (6 p.m.) and Lyman Hall at West Haven (7 p.m.).
On Friday, North Haven takes on Branford (6:30 p.m. in Branford) in what could be an early key game in the SCC Oronoque Division.
On Saturday, Fairfield Prep, last year's SCC Quinnipiac Division champ, travels to Middletown to take on this year's favorite, Xavier, for a 1 p.m. game. At 7:30 in a pivotal SCC Housatonic Division matchup between contenders Cheshire and Shelton in Shelton.

Friday is a big day in girls' soccer. If Hamden ants to win the SCC Quinnipiac, winning at home against Mercy, the defending champion, at 3:45 is almost a must. Branford plays at North Haven at 6:30 p.m. in a game that will impact the SCC Oronoque.
