Nonnewaug drops to JV in football

Nonnewaug has dropped to junior varsity status in football, according to a story in the Republican-American today.

This means area schools Hyde, Vinal Tech-Coginchaug, Valley Regional-Old Lyme, Old Saybrook-Westbrook, Haddam-Killingworth and Morgan will be credited with wins by forfeit.

Williams and Barnes Transfer

Former Hamden girls' basketball players Takerra Williams and Trinity Barnes have both transferred, Green Dragons coach John Ceneri confirmed.
Barnes, a junior, is now at Career. Williams, also a junior, is at Hillhouse.

Hamden guard Cara Deroy said she is leaning toward St. Michael's. Keylanta Langley's mother said Langley, of Lauralton Hall, is still undecided at this time. There have been rumors she is headed to Marist along with Dulin.

New Britain Names New Girls' Basketball Coach

According to the New Britain Herald, former New Britain player Tasha Manzie has replaced Karen Byrne as New Britain's girls' basketball coach.
Manzie coached the Hurricanes' junior varsity team the last three seasons. Byrne, a former coach at Guilford, led New Britain to a 44-9 mark over her two-year tenure.

Okafor Commits to Providence

Hopkins 6-foot-3 center Lauren Okafor has given an oral commitment to play basketball at Providence College.
Okafor, a senior, said her choice came down to George Washington, South Florida, St. John's, Virginia Commonwealth and Providence. Okafor gave a verbal commitment to Louisville in July, but then decommitted. Okafor averaged 15.9 points, 13.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks last season for the Hilltoppers.

Reynolds to East Haven

One year after moving from Wilbur Cross to Guilford, Jim Reynolds will become the new boys' basketball coach at East Haven, multiple sources confirmed.
The appointment will become official at Tuesday's East Haven Board of Education meeting.
